The Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region has enhanced its reputation as one of the country’s top food destinations, with an impressive number of food and drink establishments getting a gong in the latest edition of the Good Food Guide.
A total of 14 of the region’s venues received a mention in the 2022 Guide, which was done a little differently this year. No chef hats or individual awards were given in recognition of the tough time the hospitality industry has endured over the past 20 months. The message from the Good Food team was clear though; those places mentioned are the best of the best. Here’s a rundown of venues within Daylesford Macedon Ranges that appeared in the Guide.
In Daylesford, relative newcomers Beppe Kitchen & Bar (from the team behind Cliffy’s Emporium) and Japanese inspired Kadota both got a mention, sitting alongside other Daylesford dining favourites such as Lake House, Bistro Terrior and Sault. Offering a more casual experience, the new Winespeake cellar + deli and Wombat Hill House were also included.
Over in Kyneton, the charming Piper Street was recognised for three of its noteworthy dining options, with Spaghetti Bar, Midnight Starling and Fook Shing all included. Just down the road, Kuzu Izakaya in Woodend was recognised for its Japanese classics.
Heading back towards Daylesford, the tiny hamlet of Trentham proves that it punches above its weight when it comes to good food, with Annie Smithers’ Du Fermier and RedBeard Bakery both recognised for their top-notch food offerings.
Last (but certainly not least) the Radio Springs Hotel in Lyonville was recognised for its elevated pub grub and eccentric setting.
Whether you make an overnight trip out of it or come for a multi-day stay, make sure you come with an empty belly as Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges’ food offering is some of the best you’ll find in regional Australia.
The Good Food Guide 2022 magazine was inserted in The Age on November 30. It is on sale from December 7 in newsagents and supermarkets.
