WALA – IS LIFE: West African Drum and Dance Ensemble from Ghana, bringing an explosive show to Castlemaine. 12 powerful drums and percussion instruments, rarely seen or played in Australia giving a unique insight into the Ga-Adangbe culture and sound that will keep you dancing and wanting more.

WALA means “life”, depicting the breathtaking celebration of their cultural spirit in their performance. An exciting 3-Set show of drums played with hands, feet, sticks, souring vocal harmonies, flutes, and spectacular dancing. Traditional polyrhythmic music repertoire of folk Palm Wine and Ghana Highlife songs with their own original arrangements. This show begins this year´s  25th year anniversary celebration for the group. Join us in celebrating life.  

WALA is supported by Castlemaine´s local African drumming group, MAMBA NEGRA. Opening the show with a musical journey that will touch audience´s heart and soul as they celebrate the art of drumming and the enduring spirit of African culture.
