Discover, Learn, Explore the Arts in the Macedon Ranges
The Old Auction House is an independently run multi-use arts precinct located in the regional Victorian town of Kyneton, just an hour north of Melbourne. Housed in a historic weatherboard building, which served as much the loved Ferris auction rooms for over 80 years, the precinct opened in April 2017 and is home to a variety of artistic spaces. With a section of the building still under renovation The Old Auction House is currently home to a retail shop specalising in quality Australian handmade items and a curated range of art and craft supplies, four working artist studios, including local glass artists Leadlight By Ettore and craft studio Kyneton Craftery, a teaching space for visiting artists, and two gallery spaces with rotating exhibitions.
The Old Auction House handmade shop stocks a wide range of quality, Australian handmade brands and artists from across the country as well as quality craft products for your DIY projects. The shop stocks over 100 artists and designers in a diverse range of mediums, styles, and products, so you are sure to find gifts for the whole family.
As makers ourselves we believe in sourcing high quality handmade items from other small makers to allow access to high street retail from brands that often cannot get a foothold. As the shop is ever evolving every visit will feature new items and artists for you to discover.
The Old Auction House has two gallery spaces, The Main Gallery and The Studio Gallery, which exhibit a range of artists and mediums throughout the schedule of shows each year. The Main Gallery hosts a wide range of artists and styles while the Studio Gallery is reserved for use by emerging artists, community groups, and our studio artists. A full list of exhibitions is available via our website.
With many of our studios providing classes and workshops, as well as a teaching studio for visiting artists, The Old Auction House is establishing itself as a beacon in the teaching and creative arts in regional Victoria. Our schedule of teaching events regularly including terms of classes, and short courses in glass arts, fine arts (including watercolour and drawing), paper crafts, polymer clay, print making, and jewellery making. Sessions are available for all ages and abilities and if our timetable doesn’t suit we encourage private groups to make a weekend of it in the Macedon Ranges and book your own session.
